【学生インタビュー】外国人留学生に聞いてみた！名古屋外大に留学した理由は？

アメリカから名古屋外国語大学に留学中

――自己紹介をお願いします。

My name is Justice. I’m from Charlotte North Carolina and my major is art and animation as well as Japanese.
私の名前はジャスティスです。ノースカロライナ州シャーロット出身で、美術とアニメーションに加えて日本語を専攻しています。

――将来の夢は？

I think my dream for the future is to create something in my art to inspire others.
There’s a lot of media that’s helped me through dark times and difficult times. And I hope that one day the things that I create can also inspire others or help others through the hard times that they’ve gone through as well.
将来の夢は、アートを通して他人を鼓舞できるものをつくることです。
私は暗く辛い時期に多くのメディアに助けられました。そして同じように、私が生み出したもので人々を元気づけたり、困難を乗り越えようと頑張っている人の手助けになったりしたらいいなと思います。

――日本に留学した理由は？

From a very young age, I’ve always been interested in the language and culture, and I wanted to grow as a person and have new experiences and so I wanted to finally make that dream come true and study abroad in Japan to have that happen.
私は幼い頃から日本語や日本文化に強い興味を持っていて、人として成長し、新しい経験を積みたいと思っていました。その夢を実現するために、日本に留学することを決意しました。

――名古屋外大を選んだ理由は？

There were a lot of different schools, but I really liked the classes that NUFS offered. And also, I think Nagoya is a very underrated city. I think it’s really beautiful and not enough people know that. They often tend to go to Kyoto or Tokyo but Nagoya itself has always, I’ve always thought it’s really beautiful.
多くの学校が選択肢にありましたが、その中でも名古屋外大の授業内容がとても気に入りました。また、名古屋は過小評価されがちな都市だと思います。私は名古屋がとても素敵な街だと感じていますが、その魅力はあまり知られていません。多くの人は京都や東京に行きがちですが、名古屋そのものも本当に美しいと思っています。

――名古屋外大で何を学んでる？

I’m studying Japanese, the language as well as taking Japanese culture classes like calligraphy and traditional dance and learning about Japanese philosophy and religion.
日本語だけでなく書道や日本舞踊など日本文化の授業も受講しているほか、日本の哲学や宗教についても学んでいます。

――在学生との思い出は？

I had an opportunity with a Japanese friend to go to Katsuo-ji Temple all the way in Osaka. And this friend is very special to me because we met last semester and every Wednesday, we would have lunch together and talk. I’m really going to miss her when I leave but I love her a lot.
日本人の友人と一緒に、大阪の勝尾寺に行きました。彼女とは前の学期に出会ったのですが、毎週水曜日に一緒にお昼を食べながらいろんな話をするほど特別な友人です。私が帰国したら会えなくなってしまうのが本当に寂しいですが、彼女のことが大好きです。

――高校生や受験生にエールをお願いします！

To all the high schoolers who are thinking about coming to NUFS and are taking their test, Good luck! I think you guys are going to do great. 頑張って！
